The artwork series of Dianne D Baker

Dianne's art resists categorisation, evolving intuitively through layers of paint. Each work reveals or conceals underlying layers, creating what she calls "a special kind of magic."

Dianne's art explores recurring themes: abstract works, animals inspired by cave drawings, self-portraits, landscape connections, and people in various environments over the past years.

Focus

After COVID lockdowns ended, Dianne Baker was inspired by seeing people return to their work and daily lives. She began painting individuals engaged in their trades and activities, capturing their tools, skills, and joy of returning to normal life.

Rather than traditional portraits, these paintings celebrate the dignity of everyday work and leisure. Like the artists who captured ordinary people going about their lives throughout history, Dianne honours the skills and abilities of workers across different trades, moving beyond the traditional focus on painting dignitaries.

Connections With The Land

These paintings explore the deep connection between farmers and their land. Drawing from her 30 years as an organic farmer, Dianne challenges negative media portrayals of farming communities.

Her work celebrates the profound knowledge and respect that all farmers - both organic and conventional - bring to caring for their land, animals, and crops.

A Painter's Journey

Inspired by rediscovered childhood photographs, Dianne began a journey of self-exploration through art. Drawing from both past images and present reflections, including family perspectives, these works trace her path of self-discovery - from childhood memories to the realities of aging.

Abstract

Dianne believes all art is abstract. These paintings explore ideas through colour, tone, texture, and mark-making.

The Harmony Series explores the interplay of spontaneous marks evolving into finished works.

The Earth, Fire, Water & Air series began as studies of individual elements, yet revealed their interconnected nature in each completed piece.
